Newcastle fans urge Lejeune to leave the Magpies this summer

[ad_pod ]

A number of Newcastle United fans have taken to social media to call for key player Florian Lejeune to leave the club in this summer’s transfer window.

Indeed, following the club’s announcement that Rafael Benitez would be leaving as head coach at the end of this month, many of the supporters feel that Lejeune should move on because he deserves better than the Magpies.

According to Estadio Deportivo, Sevilla are interested in a deal for the centre-back, who missed the early part of last season with a serious knee injury before suffering another setback in the latter stages of the campaign.

The 28-year-old still managed to make 14 appearances last term, though, and has impressed for his English club since arriving from Eibar in July 2017.

The Newcastle fans would surely be sad to see Lejeune leave but many have told the centre-back to depart for the sake of his career.

The fans in the video below had some very strong words for Michel Platini who was detained over alleged corruption this week…

Liverpool enter race for perfect summer signing Fernandes – report

[ad_pod ]This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…Liverpool have entered the race to sign in-demand Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes, according to Sport Mediaset journalist Pietro Balzano Prota on Twitter.

What’s the word?

Fernandes has been linked with a host of clubs throughout the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur were reported to have opened talks with his agent, while Manchester United are also credited with an interest, with Prota claiming that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were “really close†to signing the playmaker.

However, Liverpool are now reported to have entered the race as they look to strengthen their own ranks.

A Portugal international, Fernandes scored 32 goals in all competitions in 2018/19.

Klopp’s perfect player

It’s hard to improve the European champions but one feels that they could use some genuine creativity in midfield.

The likes of Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Fabinho are excellent players but all of them are tacklers and shuttlers instead of offering the creative, precise threat possessed by the best playmakers – they provided just eight assists between them in the Premier League and Champions League last term.

In reality, Liverpool haven’t really had that since Philippe Coutinho departed for Barcelona and have instead focused on building an intensely quick and prolific forward three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Adding Fernandes into the mix would go a long way to ensuring that the Reds have versatility and depth in their attack next season.

He was involved in 50 goals this term, be it goals or assists, and signing him would allow Klopp to deploy a No.10 ahead of a potential pairing of Keita and Fabinho, for example.

There would be few better midfields in Europe if the 24-year-old ended up at Anfield.

Panini Tabloid Sticker Pack – Everton fan Sarah Halpin gets Lucas Digne

Lucas Digne settled into the Premier League brilliantly following his summer arrival from Barcelona, turning in a number of excellent performances for the Toffees throughout the season and finishing his debut campaign with four goals and four assists from left-back.

The 25-year-old also scored some belters, with special mention going to his volley against Manchester United.

Sarah Halpin, who can be seen in the video above filling out her Panini Tabloid, stated that Digne was the best left-back in the league last season while she reminisced over Everton’s 4-0 victory over the Red Devils – their biggest win versus the Old Trafford outfit since 1984.

Check out Sarah’s thoughts on Digne and the Goodison Park romping in full in the video above.

Crystal Palace fans not happy with potentially spending £20m on Seri

[ad_pod ]

Some Crystal Palace fans are dead against the idea of signing Fulham and Ivory Coast midfielder Jean Michael Seri, especially for the potential fee they are willing to offer.

It has been reported that the Eagles are ready to bid £20m to the west London club in what would be their first purchase using the money from Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s move to Manchester United.

The initial £45m fee generated from the sale of the young English full-back will have Palace fans excited about the prospect of who they are going to spend that money on.

But they do not seem too happy with the link to Seri, who contributed just one goal and three assists in 34 appearances for the Cottagers last season.

The 27-year-old came to Craven Cottage from Nice for a club-record fee of around £25m back in the summer of 2018, but he struggled from the start and failed to get to grips with the Premier League.

Are Crystal Palace right to slap a £100m valuation on Wilfried Zaha’s head? Check out the video below to see why they are…

And while some supporters of the Selhurst Park-based team simply don’t want him, others believe a flat fee of £20m is not an acceptable price for the midfielder.

Here is some of the reaction:

West Ham fans savage Sakho

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United fans have savaged former striker Diafra Sakho after a fan claimed the club should never have sold the Senegal international.

Sakho joined the Hammers in 2014 and went on to make 71 appearances for the club, scoring 24 goals.

Twitter user @IRONSSSS claimed on Wednesday that Sakho was the “most complete striker we have had in years.”

And fans have been quick to pile on the derision, insisting that the 29-year-old had a bad attitude during his time in east London, while also turning in a number of poor performances and picking up a multitude of injuries.

Indeed, he left for Ligue 1 club Rennes in an £8m deal in 2018, per Goal, with the report claiming that he even underwent a medical with the French club the year prior without West Ham’s permission as he looked to force his way out of east London.

And fans have shuddered at the reminder of the forward, who spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Turkish club Bursaspor.

West Brom’s Matt Phillips already giving Slaven Bilic a flavour of what he can do

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

West Brom’s pre-season preparations continued with a 4-0 win over Scunthorpe on Saturday afternoon as the Baggies put a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Villarreal a week previous behind them.

Albion weren’t at their best in the first half, failing to score, but words from new manager Slaven Bilic over the interval clearly worked a treat.

Matt Phillips, Filip Krovinovic and Hal Robson-Kanu were all on the score sheet in the second period.

On the chalkboard

After West Brom’s loss against Villarreal, Bilic admitted that he wanted to play with two strikers in the upcoming season.

The arrival of Kenneth Zohore should help with that but once again, the boss played Oliver Burke as the main striker.

Beside him were Phillips and Kyle Edwards as the Croatian opted for a 4-3-3 formation.

And it was the former who shone, scoring twice as he put himself firmly to the forefront of Bilic’s mind.

The Scot scored either side of Krovinovic’s first goal for the club, guiding home a Conor Townsend cross before then finding the net with his head.

Phillips was in brilliant form throughout the first half of last season but an injury led to a troubled end to the campaign, failing to ever replicate the performances he showed previously.

Jimmy Shan started to play him in midfield but it was back in a more familiar role of on the flanks that he showed what he was capable of against Scunthorpe.

Watch fans explain why the Football League is better than the Premier League in the video below…

The 28-year-old scored five goals whilst also claiming seven assists in 2018/19, but none of those goal contributions came after the New Year period.

He initially picked up an ankle injury in January with West Brom hoping for a February return but he then suffered a further setback in April.

It has been a bitterly disappointing 2019 so far for Phillips but in pre-season, he’s showing glimpses of getting back to his best.

For an Albion team who lacked much creativity after Harvey Barnes returned to Leicester, this should be hugely encouraging for Bilic and the Baggies.

Tottenham Hotspur stars Lucas Moura and Christian Eriksen joke around on Instagram

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur have now well and truly arrived into their 2019 summer pre-season tour. And what an entrance it has been.

The first challenge along the way was against none other than Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus and Mauricio Pochettino’s men managed to clinch a tight 3-2 victory after Harry Kane’s wonder goal from the halfway line.

But now, the team have said their goodbyes to Singapore as they set off for Shanghai just the other day, where the second leg of the Asian tour will be held.

And if their social media activity is any indication, the players are having a great time abroad, joking around and posting hilarious stuff for their fans.

Lucas Moura and Christian Eriksen were a part of the latest stint that saw the tandem mess around with some mobile apps on Instagram.

Moura posted the video under his stories of the day and we could see both of them with inflated heads as they tried to decide “who has the biggest head in the team”.

Needless to say, the video was hilarious.

Arsenal told to take "good gamble" on Daniele Rugani by former Liverpool star

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking on ESPN FC, former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has told Arsenal to take a “good gamble” this summer and sign Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani.

What did he say?

Despite clinching a reported £27m deal for St Etienne centre-back William Saliba this summer, the terms of the agreement meant that the Gunners had to loan back the teenager for the upcoming campaign.

Laurent Koscielny’s saga has also seemingly robbed Arsenal of a potential centre-back for the new season, and Nicol has now urged the Gunners to make a move for Daniele Rugani – despite his limited game time at Juventus.

Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

He said: “Arsenal no question need help at centre-back. The worry for me is Rugani has not even had a shout really in my opinion at Juventus. He probably is (better than what Arsenal have) but he’s 24 and he hasn’t had a lot of football in the last couple of seasons.

“They’re in a position where they have to gamble. They can’t afford to go out and sign a recognised centre-back and spend a lot of money on them. I guess, at the end of the day, Rugani is a gamble. But it’s a good gamble. He’s going to be a hit (if he joins Arsenal).”

A gamble worth taking

Having conceded 51 goals in the Premier League last season, the defensive frailties of Arsenal were clear for all to see. Unai Emery’s side looked fragile on occasion, and things like Rob Holding’s long-term injury and now the situation over club captain Koscielny certainly hasn’t helped matters.

Whilst the fine signing of Saliba is one for the future, the Gunners are in desperate need of a centre-back for the here and now. Rugani’s inability to break into the Juventus’ first-team should by in no means be taken as a slight against him; rather, credit must be given to the Bianconeri’s impressive strength in depth in the position in the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli, amongst others.

Whenever Rugani has played however, he has shown flashes of his potential. At 24, he still remains rather young for a central defender and has plenty of room to grow. Juventus’ signing of Matthijs de Ligt has most probably pushed him further down the pecking order in Turin, and so the Gunners could well get Rugani for a price that is rather reasonable.

"Spurs would be a slightly better fit than Arsenal for Wilfried Zaha," says Simon Jordan

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan believes that Wilfried Zaha would fit in better at Tottenham Hotspur than at Arsenal, per talkSPORT.

What’s he said?

Zaha had been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners throughout the summer transfer window.

But Unai Emery’s men appeared to draw that saga to a close with a club-record deal to sign Nicolas Pepe from Lille, announced earlier this week.

And Jordan, who was chairman at Palace between 2000 and 2010, insists that Zaha would have enjoyed a move to Spurs more than a switch to the Gunners.

He said: “I think he would like to have played for Arsenal, I think playing for Tottenham is a slightly better fit, but they are not in the market for him.”

[ad_pod ]

Fluidity desired

Jordan is probably right.

A move to Spurs would have seen Zaha given the freedom to roam behind striker Harry Kane, while Arsenal tend to play with very rigid wingers, like Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi, that do not often switch positions.

Mauricio Pochettino favours a fluid forward line, with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Heung-min Son interlinking and dovetailing throughout the 90 minutes in support of Kane.

Zaha could have added an excellent dimension to that attack, having scored 10 goals and assisted 10 more in 2018/19.

It remains to be seen if he can prove his worth throughout the coming campaign with the Eagles.

Celtic fans aren’t holding back in criticism of Scott Brown

Loads of Celtic fans have been reacting to a rather bizarre incident after the defeat to CFR Cluj, as Scott Brown “liked” a tweet slamming manager Neil Lennon.

It’s fair to say the Parkhead faithful were a little confused when the team was announced on Tuesday.

The Hoops welcomed Cluj to Glasgow knowing any victory or goalless draw would send them through, but were beaten 4-3 after a truly remarkable second half.

The defence was all over the place as Callum McGregor was tasked with defending the left flank and big summer signing Christopher Jullien was left on the bench, prompting heavy criticism of Lennon from some fans.

Brown then liked a tweet from one such fan, but has since apologised, claiming he liked the tweet by accident while scrolling through Twitter.

The skipper has looked lethargic at times this season and gave away a penalty on Tuesday with a rather foolish attempt at a sneaky handball, and fans have not taken kindly to his antics on social media after the match, with several telling the skipper to either leave or take off the armband.

Take a look at some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
