Glasgow Rangers may now be looking forward to the new season as they look to win their first Scottish Premiership title since 2011, but they did all they could to keep the previous season alive.

The Gers were adamant that the 2019/20 campaign could have been finished on the pitch, but it was voted that it would be ended early – however, that was only after Dundee’s vote was first not registered and then changed. After that, there were accusations of corruption from the Ibrox outfit, and they even pushed for an independent investigation into the SPFL.

Now, the term is behind us – but it is Hearts and Partick Thistle who are now taking on the governing body as they attempt to overturn their relegations. Dundee United are also involved, but only as they want to see their own promotion stand.

They released a statement in which they attacked the two clubs’ court case, which Ewan Murray retweeted – he took the opportunity to direct his anger at the SPFL themselves. Antes de voltar a campo pelo torneio continental, o Grêmio voltará as atenções para o Campeonato Gaúcho. O Grêmio teve o controle da partida desde o apito inicial e, com paciência, soube trocar passes – ocupando cada vez mais o campo de ataque. Maicon foi o responsável pela saída de bola do Imortal, e distribuiu bem o jogo. Pela direita, com Ramiro e Giuliano, o time de Roger Machado foi mais agudo. Mas, na hora que o cruzamento chegou à área de Sánchez, ninguém estava lá.

Bobô, por vezes, saiu demais da função de centroavante para armar as jogadas. Coube então a Ramiro, de 1,68m, aparecer como elemento surpresa e desviar de cabeça lançamento preciso de Luan, abrindo o placar na Arena. Douglas, Bobô, Luan… Sem conseguir invadir a área do Toluca, o Grêmio arriscou de longe, e levou perigo ao gol adversário. Sem ser pressionado em nenhum momento, o Tricolor Gaúcho foi para o intervalo com a vantagem mínima.

Sem Geromel – sofreu uma pancada no primeiro tempo e foi substituído por Bressan -, o Grêmio diminuiu ainda mais o ritmo na etapa final. Enquanto o Toluca passou a ir mais ao campo de ataque, o time de Roger Machado seguiu sem conseguir penetrar na defesa adversária. Os chutes de longe voltaram a ser a única alternativa. A bola voltou a ser chutada para fora da meta rival.

O jogo na Arena ficou ruim. Os dois times não demonstraram grande ambição em alterar o placar. Já pensando nas próximas partidas, o técnico gremista trocou Douglas e Bobô por Lincoln e Henrique Almeida. Os mexicanos tentaram com Esquivel, mas a partida seguiu morna. Em dois lances parecidos, o Imortal chegou à linha de fundo pela direita, mas H. Almeida e Luan não alcançaram a bola, que cruzou toda a área do Toluca sem ser tocada.

Kalvin Phillips was undoubtedly one of the best players in the Championship last term.

He started 37 games for the league’s runaway champions, and his incredible performances over the past two years have seen him linked with some of the biggest clubs in the country.

Understandably, his brilliance has seen conversations arise about his potential future at international level, and this weekend we got an update on what could be in store for him, and it’s not quite what you’d expect.

Indeed, Alan Nixon has stated that the Jamaica national team are interested in recruiting the Leeds midfielder, due to the fact he is eligible to play for the Caribbean outfit.

The journalist says that they want to build their next World Cup team around the midfielder tweeting: “Shock interest in Kalvin Phillips … from Jamaica. Qualifies for them. Official contact made. Keen to build a team round him for next World Cup.”

This is an interesting proposition for Phillips to consider, but you have to wonder why he would choose to pledge his allegiance to Jamaica at this point in time.

Of course, heritage is very important to some people, and Phillips may be very proud of his roots, but from a purely footballing standpoint, he surely has to wait and see if England give him a chance.

Gareth Southgate has watched him a number of times, and United’s promotion to the Premier League will give him the chance to impress at the top-level, meaning that an England call-up is that much more likely if he impresses.

The Three Lions are so much better than Jamaica as well, they’re 44 places above them in the FIFA world rankings, and when you factor in that they haven’t qualified for a World Cup since 1998, you have to say Phillips’ best chance of success is with Southgate’s men.

Of course, it’s up to the 24-year-old to make this call, but from a footballing standpoint, it seems a bit foolish to rush such a decision.

Por fim, o trio levou bronca conjunta por demorar para finalizar contra Renan Ribeiro e ainda acertar a trave.

Como de costume, Osorio fez mistério sobre a escalação do Tricolor contra o Vasco da Gama. وأشارت الصحيفة إلى أن لابورتا مغرم جدًا بـ توخيل، خاصًة بعد النجاح الذي حققه مع تشيلسي في الموسم الماضي، وحصول الفريق على دوري أبطال أوروبا.

وقالت الصحيفة إن العقبة التي قد تمنع برشلونة من التعاقد مع توخيل، هي عقد المدرب الألماني، حيث بعد الفوز بدوري الأبطال مدد عقده الذي كان ينتهي في 2022 حتى 30 يونيو 2024.

وأوضحت الصحيفة أن لابورتا يرى أن توخيل مدرب عصري، ومُستعد جيدًا للمنافسة العالية، وقادر على خلق جو رائع، حث يعرف كيف يحفز لاعبيه بشكل جيد.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pursuing Metz striker Habib Diallo this summer, reports say. 

According to L’Equipe, as cited by Sport Witness and relayed by Ricky Sacks, Tottenham and newly-promoted Premier League rivals Leeds United have reached out to Metz to enquire about his availability in the summer.

Diallo scored 12 goals and supplied three assists in 26 games in Ligue 1 last season.

The 4-cap Senegal international, who hails from the same Generation Foot academy where Liverpool forward Sadio Mane earned his stripes, broke through the ranks after arriving at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in 2014.

The Lilywhites and Leeds are both in need of a striker, as Spurs are desperate to find a backup for Harry Kane, while the Whites largely depended upon former Chelsea man Patrick Bamford last term.

The French publication claims Metz will let the 25-year-old go so long as they receive a “satisfying offer,” believed to be in the region of  €20m (£17m).

Spurs have a history of signing cheap firepower from the French top flight, only for the transfers to go horribly wrong, as ended up happening with Clinton N’Jie and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.

N’Jie’s ill-fated spell in the English top flight was an experience many will want to forget.

The Cameroonian did not start a single Premier League game for former boss Mauricio Pochettino, making a mere fourteen appearances in total, and an assist against Manchester City remained his only contribution of note until he was shipped out on loan to Marseille the following summer.

His time in north London was blighted by a knee injury, before he was finally put of his misery by leaving the club for good a year later.

Granted, Diallo has survived his career relatively unscathed so far, but he has never been tested at the top levels of the game. Whether or not his body will be able to cope with the rigorous demands of the Premier League remains to be seen and this may be a risk that is not worth taking.

Moreover, the Senegalese striker has holes in his game he still needs to work on before he can even be considered a serious option, as he must improve his passing and his ability to hold onto the ball, and Daniel Levy may decide to look elsewhere instead.
