ويحتل الزمالك المركز الثالث في سلم ترتيب بطولة الدوري برصيد 13 نقطة حصدهم من 4 انتصارات وتعادل وحيد، بينما تلقى هزيمة واحدة.

Scott Brown’s Celtic tale is a weird one. He has captained the club to unparalleled success but much like his team, has been disastrous in 2020/21.

The skipper’s performances have been drab, lacking energy and full of mistakes. He was sent off after just five minutes on the field against Livingston just last month – a moment of madness that defined his season.

He has been poor and nothing says as much than Neil Lennon’s decision to axe him from the side in recent months. Since the club’s victory over Lille in the Europa League before Christmas, the manager has preferred Ismaila Soro.

Though, with the Ivorian missing on Tuesday night against Kilmarnock, it was the ideal time for Brown to respond to the critics. He’s had his fair share this season – no less so than on FFC – but he answered them emphatically during Celtic’s 4-0 win.

The 35-year-old was a rock and demonstrated the qualities that have made him such an imposing figure at Parkhead down the years.

Celtic were eyeing a move for Giannelli Imbula throughout January but this showed why they didn’t invest. Brown was imperious, not only doing his defensive duties to near perfection but also popping up emphatically in the final third.

The captain opened the scoring after 29 minutes, getting his head to a David Turnbull corner from the right. Brown showed great desire to get on the end of the delivery and his header was excellent after making a clever run.

If that wasn’t enough, the veteran secured the assist for Albian Ajeti’s late strike. Brown played a delightful ball over the top into the forward’s feet before he turned and then buried the opportunity.

This was as complete a performance as they come from the experienced head. He laid a solid platform for Celtic and in total, won a mighty 11 duels throughout the contest, showcasing his oft-seen desire and intensity in the engine room. Brown also produced five interceptions, a tally that happened to be more than any Hoops player on the night.

He also managed three tackles – the second-highest of any Celtic player. For such a robust individual, Brown only gave away one foul, but was brought down five times himself by Killie players.

The midfield brute has always had a habit of frustrating the opposition and that has never been clearer this season than on Tuesday. He was brought down continuously in what was a wonderful performance both defensively and offensively.

Chris Doyle of Glasgow Live typified his display at full-time: “Eyebrows were raised as Ismaila Soro was dropped, but the captain put in a vintage performance, probably the best of his season. Capped it off with a brilliant header.”

This type of showing will have Lennon pondering his midfield options again. If Brown can finish the season with this type of consistency the Bhoys will have quite the pairing if Soro plays too.

Odsonne Edouard may have scored twice on Tuesday but without Brown, he would not have had the platform to do so. He was calm, composed, and ultimately, Lennon’s true hero.

David Moyes should recall Ryan Fredericks to the West Ham United starting line-up for Sunday’s London derby with Tottenham Hotspur.

Fredericks has been given a new lease of life at the London Stadium since the turn of the year, making seven of his 12 appearances across all competitions in 2021 alone.

The 28-year-old had only featured for 91 minutes between sustaining a hamstring injury at home to Wolves at the end of September and his call to action at Crystal Palace last month.

Yet Fredericks has still only opened six games to date this term, having entered the action from the bench in West Ham’s last three fixtures, despite impressing against Aston Villa during his most recent start.

Moyes had fielded Fredericks on the right-wing at Villa Park in place of regular first-choice forward Jarrod Bowen, having decided to double up on Dean Smith’s talisman Jack Grealish with the £40k-per-week full-back partnering Vladimir Coufal.

The decision worked well with the £100m England international Grealish not at his scintillating best, to leave Moyes impressed by how Fredericks stepped in.

“I was really pleased. His speed is really important to us, he gives us an extra dimension and allowed us to go on the outside and put crosses in from the outside rather than Jarrod coming inside a bit more,” the Irons boss said, via quotes by Claret & Hugh.

“It gave me a little bit more of a defensive situation when I needed it, up against a good team.

“I thought Ryan played very well. I thought he did a great job for me with everything he did, and he has given me more thoughts and options that he can do that job much more often now.”

Moyes should now look to repeat that success against Tottenham on Sunday, when Jose Mourinho will be striving to avoid a fifth Premier League defeat in six games and a third-straight away loss.

Despite their recent record, Spurs will pose a serious threat to West Ham’s impressive run of six wins in their last eight top-flight fixtures, with 13-goal joint top-scorer Harry Kane the most in-form player in the division this season with an average WhoScored rating of 7.78.

No player across the Premier League has been awarded as many Man of the Match ratings as the England international (9), who also ranks first for assists (11), either. So, West Ham’s defenders will have their work cut out if they are to restrict the 27-year-old.

But focusing on Kane could allow for Heung-Min Son to return to form, with the 28-year-old – who earned his worst WhoScored match rating of the league campaign so far (6.17) against Manchester City last time out – offering as many goals (13) as his teammate, along with six assists to date.

Having a partnership of Fredericks and Coufal combining on the right to restrict Son could, therefore, take away another one of Mourinho’s weapons, and increase the chances of West Ham recording a first home victory over the north London side since 2017.

توقعت تقارير صحفية موقف نادي ليفربول من إمكانية الحصول على خدمات لاعب فريق برشلونة فيليب كوتينيو خلال موسم الانتقالات الشتوي المقبل، على سبيل الإعارة.

وكان كوتينيو قد لعب في صفوف ليفربول في الفترة بين 2013 و2018 قبل أن يرحل إلى برشلونة.

وضغط كوتينيو بشدة على ليفربول من أجل السماح برحيله إلى الكامب نو آنذاك، ورغم رفض مسؤولي الريدز أكثر من مرة إلا إنهم رضخوا لمطلبه في النهاية ووافقوا على إبرام الصفقة.

ورغم ذلك، فشل لاعب الوسط الهجومي البرازيلي في ترك البصمة المتوقعة منه في برشلونة، ورحل على سبيل الإعارة إلى بايرن ميونخ لمدة موسم قبل أن يعود إلى النادي الكتالوني مجددًا.

ولا يحظى كوتينيو بفرص لعب منتظمة في صفوف برشلونة في الوقت الحالي، ما تسبب في انتشار التكهنات حول إمكانية رحيله في موسم الانتقالات الشتوي القادم.

يأتي هذا في الوقت الذي ارتبط فيه ليفربول بأكثر من لاعب من أجل تعزيز صفوف الفريق في يناير المقبل، خاصة مع فقدان خدمات محمد صلاح، ساديو ماني ونابي كيتا من أجل مشاركتهم في أمم إفريقيا.

وسُئل الصحفي الشهير جيمس بيرس، عبر شبكة “ذا أثلتيك” الإنجليزية، عن إمكانية عودة كوتينيو إلى ليفربول في الميركاتو الشتوي المرتقب على سبيل الإعارة.

ورد جيمس بيرس قائلًا: “لا أستطيع توقع ذلك، حتى لو كان برشلونة مستعدًا لذلك، فإن رسوم الإعارة والأجر ستكون ضخمة”.

وأضاف: “هذا بالإضافة إلى الطريقة التي ابتعد بها كوتينيو عن ليفربول في يناير 2018 والتي تركت طعمًا سيئًا في النادي الإنجليزي”.

وواصل: “لقد ازدهر ليفربول وكان ناجحًا للغاية بدونه، لقد تطور أسلوبهم، إنهم لا يحتاجون كوتينيو، في الواقع باستثناء أزمة إصابة أو تغيير في الموقف، لا أتوقع أن يضيف ليفربول أي شخص إلى فريقه خلال نافذة يناير”.

واختتم: “يبدو كلوب سعيدًا بما حصل عليه، وقد أشارت مصادر رفيعة المستوى بالنادي إلى أنه من غير المحتمل إضافة لاعبين جدد إلى الفريق”.

Glasgow Rangers legend Brian Laudrup believes Ryan Kent could be the difference for the Gers in their Europa League clash with Slavia Prague.

The Ibrox outfit progressed to the round of 16 after beating Royal Antwerp 9-5 on aggregate and will now face the Czech champions.

Writing in his Daily Mail column (via HITC), Laudrup has backed the £7.2m-valued former Liverpool man (Transfermarkt) to be the difference for Steven Gerrard and co. He explained:

“I covered Slavia’s win over Leicester City for Danish television last week. There’s actually quite a lot of interest in them over here because a young Danish international player, Alexander Bah, has moved out to Prague.

“They have a good unit that will press high and run hard. Defensively, they are sound. Leicester barely managed to create a couple of chances against them as they were denied the space to use their counter-attacking prowess.

“But I think Rangers have different qualities – players who can take people on and create. Look at how Ryan Kent played against Antwerp, for one example.

“I still see Gerrard’s team as slight favourites. Maybe 60-40. That’s all.”

More consistency

Kent was in top form against Antwerp – he scored twice across the two matches and provided an assist despite not starting either game (Transfermarkt). However, he has proven to be inconsistent across the campaign – he was on fire earlier on in the term, scoring five times in the first nine matches, but it has taken him 32 games since to double that tally.

The 24-year-old’s ability is clear for all to see, but given that the Gers parted with £7.5m to capture his services in 2019 (Sky Sports), many will no doubt be expecting more. Gerrard and co will be hoping he is at his best in the next round of the Europa League as the 54-time Scottish champions aim to reach to the quarter-finals.

Speaking exclusively with Football FanCast, Carlton Palmer has backed Josh Windass to win a place in Sheffield Wednesday’s starting XI under new manager Darren Moore.

Windass has been “frustrated” by his lack of playing time, something former caretaker boss Neil Thompson revealed last month, but was given a start in the recent 3-2 defeat to Luton Town and did not disappoint.

The 27-year-old managed to bag himself two goals on the day in a display that will surely give his new boss something to think about ahead of that all-important clash against Rotherham United on Wednesday.

They were his fourth and fifth of the Championship campaign, and Palmer is now hoping to see him kick on amid what has been a difficult period not just for the player, but the club as a whole.

Speaking exclusively to FFC about Windass’ recent performance, Palmer said:

“He’s now scored two goals. So, you know, I expect Darren to select him. I’m sure he’ll be speaking to Thompson, who knows the players really well. And I would assume that Josh will start the next game. You would expect to as a player if you scored two goals, and then the rest is down to him.”

While Windass will surely be keen to impress if selected for the visit of Rotherham as he looks to nail down a regular position in Wednesday’s XI, his biggest concern will undoubtedly be securing the three points.

Paul Wayne’s side are only one point ahead of the Owls, albeit with a game in hand, so a win could really help change the complexion of the relegation battle.
