"Underrated" 4-2-3-1 manager now open to replacing Nuno at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have been at the centre of managerial uncertainty in recent times and could now be set to replace Nuno Espirito Santo with a rival Premier League boss.

Nuno headstrong amid Nottingham Forest uncertainty

After a strong summer transfer window, Nottingham Forest are primed for another Premier League campaign, but there are lingering doubts over the tenure of their manager.

Tense relationships with Evangelos Marinakis and Edu Gaspar have left the Portuguese boss in an uneasy situation, though new England star Elliot Anderson has confirmed he would like his boss to still be in the East Midlands once the international break is over.

He stated: “Yeah definitely. He’s been really good for me. I feel he’s given me the freedom to go out and do what I do. He just believes in me, which is the main thing.

“He has said ‘go out and play the way you train’, which has really helped me. Freedom in the team has given me the platform to do well. Right now I’m just focusing on this camp and doing my best here and then when I get back to my club I’ll be focused on my club.”

Away from the managerial situation, Nottingham Forest have agreed an out-of-window deal to sign Rangers youngster Blaine McClure, illustrating that work is ongoing behind the scenes at the City Ground despite the market now being closed.

Improvements will continue as the Tricky Trees look to make a mark once again, albeit a feeling of disappointment over their comprehensive defeat to West Ham United before the international break will linger.

Espirito Santo’s position will continue to come under scrutiny despite talks between him and Marinakis, and there is now a new name in the running to replace him at the City Ground.

Marco Silva in contention for Nottingham Forest job

According to Football Insider, Marco Silva is a contender for the Nottingham Forest managerial position and is unhappy at Fulham, meaning he would welcome the opportunity to take a Premier League post elsewhere.

Preferring a 4-2-3-1, the former Everton boss shares the same agency as Marinakis and has emerged as a top target at the City Ground amid Nuno’s public disagreement with the Tricky Trees owner.

Dubbed “underrated” by Heurelho Gomes, Silva has won 75 Premier League matches from a total of 212 in the dugout, drawing 45 and losing 92 times.

Listing Sporting Clube de Portugal, Watford and Everton among his other former clubs, he may now switch clubs if Nottingham Forest opt to pull the plug on Nuno. However, results in the coming weeks will determine that.

Following four points from nine available in their first three Premier League matches, the Tricky Trees have work to do on the field, though confusion over their managerial reality continues to make headlines.

Mustafizur Rahman has been “granted” a no-objection certificate to link up with Delhi Capitals (DC) for “the period from 18-24 May 2025,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a statement on Friday afternoon. That makes him available – in Mitchell Starc’s absence – for DC’s three remaining league-phase games in IPL 2025, but not the playoffs, should DC make it to that stage. The BCB confirmed that Mustafizur would be available for Bangladesh’s first T20I against UAE in Sharjah on Saturday before travelling to India. Whether he is ready for action after reaching India on May 18 for DC’s game the same evening, however, remains to be seen. The arrangement between DC and Mustafizur had run into a bit of a snag earlier in the week, with the IPL and the franchise issuing a statement confirming his acquisition but the BCB then stating that it hadn’t been approached for a no-objection certificate yet.Related

IPL 2025: which overseas players are available for the rest of the season?

On Friday morning, Starc confirmed that he wouldn’t be travelling to India for the remainder of IPL 2025, a week after being part of the match that was abandoned in Dharamsala – and will be replayed. Donovan Ferreira, who played one game this season, would also not be returning. The update means that Starc will have a clear runway into the World Test Championship (WTC) final, avoiding the possibility of playing T20s in India a week before the match. Starc is DC’s highest wicket-taker so far in the season with 14 wickets in 11 matches at 26.14.Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs have confirmed their return, but Stubbs will be available only for the rest of the league phase, after which he would be leaving for the WTC final.

Fewer touches than Vicario: Frank must drop 4/10 Spurs dud after Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur dropped points for just the second time this season on home soil last night, with their meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers ending 1-1.

Santiago Bueno looked as though he had secured Vitor Pereira’s side their first league win of the Premier League campaign, but Thomas Frank’s side managed to stage a late fightback.

Joao Palhinha’s effort deep into stoppage time saw the Lilywhites claim a late point, extending the side’s unbeaten run to five games across all competitions.

It certainly wasn’t a vintage showing in North London, but it’s certainly a sign of a good side if they can avoid defeat even when not producing one of their best displays.

However, if Frank’s side are to be a success in the near future, the Dane desperately needs to address one issue that arose in the meeting with the West Midlands outfit.

Spurs’ biggest issue against Wolves last night

In front of goal this season, Spurs have been largely impressive, scoring 11 times in their six league outings – averaging nearly two goals per game in 2025/26.

However, their showing against Pereira’s side last night was a somewhat toothless one, subsequently being unable to break down the opposition, who have failed to win a single top-flight outing.

Whilst the Lilywhites had 51% of the play, completing 111 passes into the final third, but could only muster a total of three shots on target during the 90 minutes.

Even when managing to get a shot off, Frank’s men struggled with their accuracy, only managing to get 30% of their shots on target – undoubtedly leading to their inability to secure all three points.

Their subsequent chances only accrued an xG of just 0.87, with the visitors achieving a higher total of 1.15 – subsequently doing so despite managing fewer efforts on goal.

The Lilywhites’ attack was made up of over £150m worth of talent last night, but numerous of such players failed to make the desired impact in forward areas.

The Spurs player who needs to be dropped after Wolves

Xavi Simons joined Spurs in a £52m transfer from RB Leipzig late in the summer window, but as of yet, the Dutchman has struggled to hit the ground running in North London.

The 22-year-old has made five appearances in all competitions, but has only registered one goal contribution, with his assist for Pape Sarr against West Ham United his only tangible reward.

In his showing against Wolves yesterday, Simons only managed a 25% dribble success rate, whilst only completing 27% of the crosses he attempted – highlighting his lack of impact in North London.

In the majority of his matches to date, the youngster has operated in an unnatural role off the left-hand side, which has no doubt contributed to his lack of success since his big-money move.

However, the same can’t be said for Richarlison, with the Brazilian striker being Frank’s first choice number nine in the absence of Dominic Solanke since the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Whilst the 28-year-old started the season in superb fashion, netting two goals in the opening day triumph over Burnley, he’s ultimately struggled to hit such heights in recent weeks.

He’s now only managed to find the back of the net once in his last seven outings across all competitions, hitting a blank against Wolves once again last night.

Despite not scoring, Richarlison may have been able to save himself with his all-round showing, but it was an evening to forget for the talisman in North London as he looked way off the pace throughout the draw.

His lack of impact was highlighted by his tally of just 20 touches, a figure lower than that of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who managed 29 throughout the contest.

Richarlison’s dismal showing was further reflected in his tally of just five passes completed, at a success rate of just 56%, whilst also losing possession eight times – losing the ball 40% of the time he touched it.

His further tallies of 0% dribbles completed and 33% duel success rate also indicate how alien he was during the meeting with Pereira’s men, often being dominated by the opposition backline.

As a result of his showing, the £50m forward was handed a measly 4/10 match rating by Football London journalist Alasdair Gold – topping off what was a disappointing performance from the Brazilian.

After such a showing, boss Frank has no choice but to make a change at the top end of the pitch, with such a position becoming an issue given the lack of tangible rewards produced in recent games.

The Champions League clash at Bodo Glimt could present an excellent opportunity to try something slightly left field in an attempt to try and rectify the problem currently apparent at the top end of the pitch.

Fabrizio Romano gives Arsenal "guarantee" in Real Madrid transfer revelation

Arsenal are preparing to return to action against Nottingham Forest this weekend, but an intriguing transfer story has now come to light courtesy of reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Mikel Arteta’s side and Forest, now managed by former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, are the first Premier League sides back on the field in this Saturday’s lunchtime kick off.

Only a win will do for Arsenal, who lost their first game of the season against current English champions Liverpool prior to the international break, and they’ll be hoping to upset Postecoglou’s debut game in the Forest dugout with a convincing Emirates Stadium display.

Sporting director Andrea Berta did his all to back Arteta in the transfer market, splashing over £250 million on the signings of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze and Piero Hincapie, so there are no excuses for Arsenal now.

The pressure is truly on for Arsenal to finally win their first Premier League title in over 20 years, following three consecutive campaigns finishing second behind Man City and Liverpool.

The signings of Eze and Gyokeres in particular will be vital, amid criticism surrounding Arsenal’s lack of creativity in the final third — something which was on full display at Anfield last month.

Arsenal hijacked Tottenham to sign Eze in spectacular fashion, while Gyokeres’ arrival ended the club’s long wait for a prolific striker to come through the door.

Arsenal were also briefly in talks for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, but according to Romano, the Brazilian wasn’t the only Madrid player attracting serious interest from north London at one point.

Fabrizio Romano shares Arda Guler transfer revelation from Arsenal

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the respected reporter says that Los Blancos playmaker Arda Guler was also being seriously considered by former Arsenal director Edu Gaspar prior to Berta’s arrival.

Arda Guler at the Club World Cup with Real Madrid.

Arsenal held internal talks over signing Guler, who was a concrete target for the Gunners before Xabi Alonso came in and started using the Turkey international starlet on a much more regular basis.

Guler has gone on to become a starter under Alonso, playing all of their La Liga matches so far, not to mention all of their matches at the Club World Cup. This has ruined all possibility of Arsenal signing the 20-year-old, but he was seriously under consideration at N5.

Guler has bagged two goals and three assists in nine starts since Alonso took charge, with the ex-Fenerbahce sensation’s Bernabeu career finally getting off the ground.

Saved by Martinelli: 5/10 Arsenal man was even worse than Merino vs City

It doesn’t take much for the mood to change in football, and Arsenal are the perfect example of that.

Just a few days ago, there was a real sense of optimism around the club following big wins over Nottingham Forest and Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League.

However, their performance against Manchester City left a lot to be desired, and were it not for a late equaliser from Gabriel Martinelli, the Gunners would have lost their second Premier League game of the season.

It was a game to forget for much of the Arsenal team, and while Mikel Merino has received plenty of criticism, there is another star that Mikel Arteta should consider dropping for the game this week.

The Arsenal players who underwhelmed vs City

Now it is important to clarify that few, if any, Arsenal players were genuinely terrible yesterday.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

After all, while the result was hugely disappointing, the Gunners would not have earned a point against a team like City if they played terribly.

With that said, there were more than a handful of starters who underwhelmed in a big way, like Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian did little to dispel the idea of him being a better impact player than starter, as in 84 minutes of action, he amassed a combined expected goal and assists figure of just 0.15, failed to complete a single cross, didn’t register a shot on target and was accurate with just 78% of his passes.

Someone who had some pretty impressive numbers for the game, but made one consequential mistake, was Gabriel Magalhães.

The Brazilian stalwart found himself far too high up the pitch and mistimed a tackle in the lead-up to Erling Haaland’s opener, which meant he had no chance of catching the Norwegian.

Finally, it was another outing that showed a midfield of Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Merino does not work.

The latter was particularly ineffective, completing 18 passes, failing to complete a long ball or cross, losing 100% of his aerial duels, losing the ball six times and generally being more of a hindrance to build up than any sort of help in defence.

It was a game to forget for all of these starters, but there is another who was at the very least just as bad and should therefore be dropped from the team this week.

The Arsenal star Arteta should drop

When it comes to arguably the most ineffective player on the pitch for Arsenal yesterday, it probably won’t surprise many of you that we’re talking about Viktor Gyokeres.

Now, before the pitchforks come out, the Swedish international has had a couple of good games for the club, such as Leeds United and Forest, but yesterday was not one of those.

The former Sporting CP superstar was anonymous for pretty much the entire encounter, as while he held the ball up relatively well at points, he offered little to no threat.

Now, there is an argument to be made that the rest of the team didn’t create enough chances for him; it could also be said that the best strikers help create their own chances.

It might sound like a harsh appraisal, but we aren’t the only ones who were disappointed by his performance.

For example, The Standard’s Simon Collings awarded him a 5/10 match rating at full-time, writing that he ‘could not make an impact.’

Unsurprisingly, his statistics more than back this up, as in his 97 minutes of inaction, the Stockholm-born poacher didn’t take a single shot on target, took just 22 touches, completed six passes, lost 100% of his ground duels, lost the ball 13 times and failed in 100% of his dribbles.

In short, it was a poor showing from the man who is supposed to spearhead this Arsenal side to Premier League glory.

Therefore, Arteta should take him out of the firing line for the game against Port Vale tomorrow night, give him time to rest, and hopefully, he can come back into the side next week rejuvenated and ready to show the fans what he can do.

He's on borrowed time: £31m Man City star must now regret signing for Pep

Manchester City’s summer was defined by both change and ambition.

After a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, finishing third and ending the season without a trophy for the first time since Pep Guardiola’s debut year, the club knew reinforcements were needed.

Out went long-serving figures such as Kevin De Bruyne, İlkay Gündoğan and Kyle Walker, taking with them a wealth of experience and winning mentality.

In came Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Aït-Nouri to refresh the outfield ranks.

But the most intriguing business arrived between the posts.

Ederson, who had been at City since 2017 and redefined the modern goalkeeper with his ball-playing ability, departed on deadline day for Fenerbahçe.

In his place came not one but two new stoppers – James Trafford, a record-breaking signing from Burnley, and Gianluigi Donnarumma, Italy’s captain and widely regarded as the world’s best goalkeeper.

City’s reshaped squad has shown flashes of potential, most recently in a hard-fought 1-0 win over Brentford courtesy of Erling Haaland’s ninth goal of the season.

But while Guardiola’s side currently sit fifth, much of the conversation has centred on how the goalkeeping department will evolve.

Why Donnarumma is Man City's best signing for years

The deadline day signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma raised eyebrows across Europe.

City spent £26m to lure the 26-year-old from Paris Saint-Germain, where he had amassed 161 appearances, kept 56 clean sheets, and crucially played a starring role in delivering the club’s first Champions League triumph.

With 76 caps for Italy and the captain’s armband at international level, Donnarumma arrived with pedigree few can match.

His performances for PSG last season – including several man-of-the-match displays in Europe – reaffirmed his reputation as the finest shot-stopper in the world.

Standing at 1.96m, he commands his area with authority, particularly in aerial situations, and is renowned for producing big saves under pressure.

However, what makes this move fascinating is how it fits into Guardiola’s philosophy. For years, the Catalan has prioritised goalkeepers who excel with the ball at their feet.

It was that desire which saw Joe Hart replaced by Claudio Bravo in 2016, and later justified the faith placed in Ederson, who delivered not only saves but four assists last season through his pinpoint distribution.

Donnarumma, by contrast, is less accomplished with the ball. His strength lies in traditional goalkeeping qualities – reflexes, reach and shot-stopping.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

This suggests either a tactical evolution for Guardiola or a pragmatic response to City’s first trophyless season in seven years.

Having witnessed Liverpool lift the title in 2025, Guardiola may have decided solidity and reliability outweigh artistry for the moment.

So far, Donnarumma has featured six times for City this season, keeping three clean sheets and producing a stunning derby save against Manchester United.

All of that has helped to ensure that another of City’s summer signings has already become rather redundant.

Man City star on borrowed time after Donnarumma signing

For James Trafford, the summer promised a fairytale return.

A boyhood City supporter, the 22-year-old rejoined the club from Burnley in a deal worth up to £31m – making him the most expensive British goalkeeper in history.

It was a transfer designed to signal the beginning of a new era, with Trafford earmarked as the long-term heir to Ederson.

His rise had been meteoric. Last season, he was a cornerstone of Burnley’s record-breaking Championship campaign, playing 45 games, keeping 30 clean sheets and conceding just 15 goals.

Such a run of form deservedly saw him named among the PFA Championship team of the Season.

His remarkable consistency included a run of 12 consecutive shutouts and 910 minutes without conceding – feats that attracted serious interest from Newcastle before City swooped in.

Since returning, Trafford has been given opportunities, playing three times already this season.

While he impressed against Brighton despite a 2-1 defeat, he also endured difficult moments, most notably a costly error against Tottenham when his misplaced pass led to João Palhinha’s goal.

With Donnarumma arriving weeks later, the writing may already be on the wall.

The statistics tell a curious story. Trafford boasts a save percentage of 84.5% compared to Donnarumma’s 67.6%, concedes fewer goals per 90 (0.36 versus 1.08), and completes more passes at greater progressive distances.

By those metrics, Trafford arguably looks the more Guardiola-esque option.

Yet the Italian has the experience and reputation that will inevitably command the manager’s trust in key fixtures.

At just 22, Trafford’s potential remains enormous, but his pathway to becoming City’s long-term No.1 may already be blocked.

Should Donnarumma cement his place, Trafford could soon be faced with a difficult decision – whether to bide his time and develop at City or seek opportunities elsewhere to avoid stagnation. As GOAL put it, the stopper is likely to be “regretting his life choices” now.

Either way, City fans can take solace in having two highly talented goalkeepers on their books. But in the high-stakes world of Guardiola’s City, only one will truly be trusted to lead them back to the summit.

Jadon Sancho and rapper girlfriend accused of owing money to ex-manager as Man Utd loanee told 'it's all your fault'

Jadon Sancho and rapper and singer girlfriend Saweetie have been accused of owing money to her ex-manager. Maybach Mayy took to Instagram to call out Saweetie in a series of posts and has called for reimbursement. Sancho and Saweetie, whose real name is Diamonte Harper, appear to have been dating for some time now after she was spotted in attendance at a Chelsea game last season.

Getty Images SportSancho and partner accused on social media

Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea, who agreed to pay a penalty fee of £5m to Manchester United to get out of an obligation to make the move permanent. Sancho managed three goals and four assists for the Blues in the Premier League last season yet they were happy to pay to send the former Borussia Dortmund winger back to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old started 19 league games for the west London side under Enzo Maresca, one of which was the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, where Sancho was seen running over to Saweetie and hugging her on the touchline during his warm-up. Mayy was also on the touchline for the stalemate with the Cherries, and also spotted hugging Sancho.

However, since then the relationship between Saweetie and Mayy has deteriorated. In a series of explosive social posts, Mayy has accused Saweetie of failing to pay for club hosting appearances during multiple international trips, which includes a visit to Africa earlier this year.

Advertisement'Instead of paying me she fell in love with the client'

Mayy even goes as far as labelling Sancho a 'client', initially stating: "I want to make one thing clear, I booker her for an appearance to visit the Chelsea stadium and support the soccer team (as my last post shows). Instead of paying me she fell in love with the client and told him not to pay me.

"I was a road manager with her getting her deal. I was solid to this girl. She got what she wanted and never paid me, simple. I want my money!"

Mayy then turned her attention to Sancho, adding: "Sancho you do not get to kick a ball in peace while owing me and still out there tricking, it's all your fault messy little fairy."

Both Saweetie and Sancho, who has the rapper's middle name tattooed under his left ear, have remained silent on the matter so far.

Getty Images SportSancho struggling to rediscover form

Sancho was linked with a move to Roma over the summer after it became clear he had no future at United. However, a switch to the Italian side fell through and just as it looked as though he'd be resigned to staying at Old Trafford until January at the earliest, he managed to secure a loan move to Aston Villa on deadline day.

The move was a welcome one for Sancho, who has struggled to rediscover his best form since leaving Borussia Dortmund for United in 2021. Even so, Sancho has found minutes hard to come by following his switch to Villa Park last month.

The England international has registered just eight minutes of Premier League action since his move to the Villans, while his only start resulted in an EFL Cup penalty shootout defeat to Brentford. That said, Villa boss Unai Emery has vowed to help Sancho regain his spot in the Three Lions squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Sancho hoping to maintain decent form at Spurs

Sancho, who has been recovering from illness recently, will hope for more minutes when Villa travel to Tottenham on Sunday. Villa make the trip to the capital on a four-game winning streak following their 2-1 win over Burnley prior to the international. Donyell Malen bagged a brace in the home success, though a 78th-minute Lesley Ugochukwu strike set up a nervy finish at Villa Park.

Villa also have a solid record at Spurs having won three of the last five league meetings between the pair in north London. Sancho, too, often turns up when playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium having scored on two of his last three visits to Tottenham.

Thomas Frank's side are unbeaten in seven ahead Sunday's welcome of Villa, though they have won just two of their last five, one of which was against lower league opposition Doncaster in the EFL Cup. Spurs have lost just one game inside 90 minutes in all competitions this season, a defeat that came at home to Bournemouth in August, and have won only three of their last 17 home league matches.

Their own Yamal: Man Utd teen is "one of the world's most exciting talents"

The Class of ’92 is known the world over. It’s perhaps one of the best crops of academy talents we’ve ever seen, not just at Manchester United, but in English football.

Six footballers by the names of David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes all quickly became household names, graduating at the same time and becoming United legends in the process.

While Carrington isn’t as successful as that now, it has generated plenty of household names in recent years from Marcus Rashford to Kobbie Mainoo.

Tradition is central to the academy and it has proven to be such a big success that the Red Devils have had someone from their academy in every first-team matchday squad since 1937. It’s a remarkable fact and one that’s currently being held together by Mainoo.

But, with the threat of the midfielder leaving still lingering in the air, who are the next crop of talents hoping to maintain that 88-year record?

The biggest young talents at Manchester United right now

The Class of ’92 may well have been over 30 years ago now but the United academy is showing no signs of slowing down, having enjoyed a fabulous start to the campaign.

Indeed, at the top age groups, the Red Devils sit second in the U18 Premier League, level on points with first-placed Manchester City.

Football FanCast’s In the Pipeline series aims to uncover the very best youth players in world football.

As for the U23s, they are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League 2 table on 18 points, two ahead of Ipswich Town.

They have a plethora of players to thank for their good performances to date with the likes of Chido Obi Martin, Jack Fletcher and Shea Lacey all shining.

Lacey, who has been compared to Phil Foden in the past, already has two goals in just four appearances, while attacking midfielder Jack Fletcher, someone potentially seen as Bruno Fernandes’ future replacement, has also found the net on two occasions.

Unsurprisingly, their top scorer at the moment is Chido Obi, who has bagged three in six league outings to commence the season.

At U18 level, we’ve seen a number of top-drawer performances. Son of Wayne, Kai Rooney, has scored once in two games and is no doubt one of the biggest storylines of their campaign to date.

Speaking of Rooney, 17-year-old winger Amir Ibragimov has three goals in five outings and has been compared to Wazza for his bite and tenacity.

But, we’ve got this far and we’re yet to speak of United’s most exciting talent yet.

Carrington star could rival Yamal in the future

Last term, all of the hype surrounded Chido Obi. He’d arrived from Arsenal off the back of a ridiculous season in front of goal, scoring 32 times in 24 matches at U18 level. For the U16s, he even scored ten goals in one game, a 14-3 victory over Liverpool.

Yet, the young Dane may well have a rival for first-team minutes in the coming years for a 15-year-old by the name of JJ Gabriel is making waves.

Gabriel only turned 15 on Monday but has been generating a storm at youth level this season after scoring seven goals in six U18 Premier League matches.

A centre-forward who can also play on the wings, he’s been described as the ‘Kid Messi’ for his dazzling dribbling ability. That attribute is without a doubt his greatest strength.

Yet, as the numbers demonstrate in 2025/26 so far, he’s also pretty good in front of goal.

Scoring at that rate of knots at youth level is always likely to attract interest but the fact of the matter is that Gabriel has been earning hype for longer than a few weeks.

Just last week, he was hailed as “one of the most exciting talents in the world” by the Manchester Evening News’ Steven Railston, with the same publication outlining how some in the know at academy level believe ‘he could be the best talent United’s academy has ever seen’.

Considering the likes of Beckham, Neville and Giggs have all traversed their way through the youth setup in Manchester, that’s a rather bold statement.

However, the fact he already has the backing of Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, and CEO, Omar Barrada speaks volumes.

A top European club were allegedly in advanced talks to sign the teenager this summer but a meeting at the 11th hour that both Wilcox and Barrada attended managed to convince Gabriel to stay. How did they do that? Well, assuring him that he could become the face of the club.

At just 15, the very fact the youngster is the best player in the U18s says a lot. It’s a similar rise to Arsenal’s Max Dowman who was starring in the same age group last season at the same age.

He is still only 15 and has already earned his Premier League debut for the Gunners in the opening weeks of the new campaign. For Gabriel, you’d imagine a first-team bow wouldn’t be too far off either.

While one needs to be careful with how much hype they attach to a young footballer, there will be hopes that Carrington are developing their own very own Lamine Yamal here.

Like Dowman, the Spaniard was 15 years old when he made his debut for Barcelona. He only just turned 18 over the summer but has already been recognised as the second-best player in the world, finishing second to Ousmane Dembele at last month’s Ballon d’Or gala.

We’re not saying Gabriel will definitely be there in a few years time but many speak of the vast potential this young boy has. He’s starring as a 15-year-old at U18 level; he’s clearly miles above his age group. This is certainly a player for supporters to get excited about.

Man Utd's future "£100m plus footballer" could steal the #8 from Fernandes

Manchester United have a player who could reach the very top in the years ahead at Old Trafford.
