No Diop, Yarmolenko remains: Predicted West Ham XI vs Wolves

West Ham United are seeking their first points of the new Premier League season this evening as they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the London Stadium.

David Moyes’ men have lost both their opening fixtures, which puts them in a precarious position at the bottom end of the table.

And it appears things won’t get any easier with a rampant Wolves in town, the first of six games against last season’s top eight.

So with the Hammers performing in the cup, but not the league, what sort of side will lineup here tonight?

Well, despite not being in attendance, Moyes could make as many as nine changes to the side that thrashed Hull City in midweek.

Between the sticks, number one shot-stopper Lukas Fabianski returns whilst only Fabian Balbuena keeps his place from that Carabao Cup victory, meaning Aaron Cresswell and Ryan Fredericks take up spots on the flanks with Angelo Ogbonna partnering the 29-year-old.

There is no place for £22m man Issa Diop.

The Irons could revert back to their regular midfield three, which includes skipper Mark Noble playing slightly more advanced of the coveted Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

Despite bagging in midweek, Sebastien Haller is dropped to the bench at the expense of Michail Antonio whilst Andriy Yarmelenko is the only other player to keep his place.

He’ll partner Jarrod Bowen on the wings.

It also means the likes of £22.5m-rated Felipe Anderson, Jack Wilshere, Manuel Lanzini and Robert Snodgrass are all out of the starting lineup whilst there is no place for Pablo Fornals due to the Ukrainian’s inclusion.

AND in other news, Hammers keen on late move for £35k-p/w record-breaker…

Proact Stadium

Key information about Proact Stadium

Proact Stadium was opened in 2010 and is now the home of Chesterfield FC who play their football in the National League. The ground is located in Whittington Moor on the site of the former Dema Glassworks and interestingly, also houses Sheffield United U23s and Sheffield United Women’s team.

Its current capacity stands at 10,504 with a pitch that measures 112 by 74 yards. The surface is covered with natural grass and there is no running track surrounding it.

The record attendance of 10,089 at Proact Stadium was set during the clash between Chesterfield and Rotherham back in 2011.

A history of Proact Stadium

Chesterfield FC moved to Proact Stadium back in 2010 following around 130 years spent at their old ground, the Recreation Ground at Saltergate. Needless to say, that stadium was actually one of the oldest around and was, by that time, falling into disrepair and the club needed a change.

The first plans to move to a different stadium were actually drawn up as early as October 2004 and an agreement between the club and the local authorities was done in the following year. Still, even with all of those things out of the way quite early, complications ensued and it wouldn’t be until 2008 that they would actually get the planning permission and in 2009, the land was handed over to Chesterfield to finally start building.

The official construction began in February 2009 and it would take them about a year to finish and open it for business in 2010. 24 July was the date Chesterfield played their first game at their new home, hosting Derby County in a pre-season friendly clash. The first competitive clash, however, followed suit about three weeks later when Barnet came to town.

If reports are to be believed, the approximate cost of the erection of Proact Stadium was around £13m and it is comprised of four different stands which give it a maximum capacity of 10,500. Still, if Chesterfield need more room in case too many fans flock into the ground, the corners can also be filled in to further boost that figure to 13,000.

Interestingly enough, various sponsorship deals have resulted in Proact Stadium changing names on multiple different occasions. In 2009, when it was still in the process of being erected, the ground was actually called the b2net Stadium. But that wouldn’t last and two seasons later, following the acquisition of b2net by Swedish company Proact, the name changed once again, this time to Proact Stadium, which was officially announced on 13 August 2012.

As of August 2020, however, the name will change from Proact Stadium to Technique Stadium due to the latest sponsorship deal struck by the club.

Away from the footballing facilities and on the exterior of the East Stand is a £1.7m community facility commonly known just as the HUB. And this is where the rest of the stadium’s features are located with a cafe, ‘Chester’s Den’, a martial arts dojo, a play centre, a gym, a therapy pool, a multi-use sports hall, classrooms as well as the offices of the Trust and other tenants.

Apart from Chesterfield, Proact Stadium is also used by Sheffield United U23s and Sheffield United Women’s team.

Tickets to watch Chesterfield FC at Proact Stadium

All tickets to watch Chesterfield FC play at Proact Stadium can be found on the club’s official website. The price depends on the age group of the buyer as well as the stand chosen with the cost ranging between £18 and £22 for an adult ticket.

Of course, the club also offers a season ticket scheme which can give fans a discount over the course of the season.

Aston Villa can sign Remi Garde favourite in Clement Grenier

According to French journalist Manu Lonjon, Aston Villa are in talks to sign Clement Grenier in this summer transfer window.

What’s the word?

Dean Smith’s side fought off relegation from the Premier League on the final day of last season, and have been boosted in recent days by the big-money signing of Brentford marksman Ollie Watkins.

Now, Lonjon claims that Villa’s attentions have now turned towards bringing in Stade Rennes midfielder Grenier, with there being an “ongoing discussion” with both the top-flight side and Porto.

The journalist claims that Turkish giants Galatasaray are also in the running to sign the £55k-a-week ace.

Imagine him and Grealish

The key for Villa in this new upcoming season is whether they can find someone who can share the creative burden with talisman, Jack Grealish.

The club captain carried a heavy weight on his shoulders, being seen as the one to both score and create for the side – he finished the campaign with ten goals and eight assists across all competitions.

But in Grenier, Villa can find someone who has the ability to unlock defences from central midfield, and take up the role of being the side’s chief orchestrator from the middle of the park – he averaged an impressive 1.2 key passes and 51.5 touches per game for Rennes in Ligue 1 last season.

Back in his Lyon days, then manager Remi Garde – who Villa fans will of course be all too familiar with – expressed his admiration and love for the France international. He said: “He’s won over everyone. He’s done what was necessary to be at the heart of our project for years to come. What I said to him will stay between us, but when I highlight certain players who are no longer part of the project, that in no way applies to Clement. We’re going to do everything to keep him.”

It was no surprise that clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle were interested in luring him to English football several years ago, with then Magpies boss Alan Pardew even hailing him as someone with “tremendous creative technical ability”.

If Villa can finally bring him to the Premier League, they could have someone who can help Grealish flourish that little bit more.

Kalvin Phillips approached by Jamaica according to Alan Nixon

Kalvin Phillips was undoubtedly one of the best players in the Championship last term.

He started 37 games for the league’s runaway champions, and his incredible performances over the past two years have seen him linked with some of the biggest clubs in the country.

Understandably, his brilliance has seen conversations arise about his potential future at international level, and this weekend we got an update on what could be in store for him, and it’s not quite what you’d expect.

What’s been said then?

The words ‘shock interest in Kalvin Phillips’ are enough to send a shiver down any Leeds fan’s spine, but in this case it’s not another club looking at him.

Indeed, Alan Nixon has stated that the Jamaica national team are interested in recruiting the Leeds midfielder, due to the fact he is eligible to play for the Caribbean outfit.

The journalist says that they want to build their next World Cup team around the midfielder tweeting: “Shock interest in Kalvin Phillips … from Jamaica. Qualifies for them. Official contact made. Keen to build a team round him for next World Cup.”

Not yet

This is an interesting proposition for Phillips to consider, but you have to wonder why he would choose to pledge his allegiance to Jamaica at this point in time.

Of course, heritage is very important to some people, and Phillips may be very proud of his roots, but from a purely footballing standpoint, he surely has to wait and see if England give him a chance.

Gareth Southgate has watched him a number of times, and United’s promotion to the Premier League will give him the chance to impress at the top-level, meaning that an England call-up is that much more likely if he impresses.

The Three Lions are so much better than Jamaica as well, they’re 44 places above them in the FIFA world rankings, and when you factor in that they haven’t qualified for a World Cup since 1998, you have to say Phillips’ best chance of success is with Southgate’s men.

Of course, it’s up to the 24-year-old to make this call, but from a footballing standpoint, it seems a bit foolish to rush such a decision.

Spurs could get future superstar in AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo

With the future of last year’s club record signing Tanguy Ndombele up in the air, it’s no surprise to see Tottenham being linked with another highly-rated midfielder this summer.

According to Italian publication Leggo, Spurs are interested in signing AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo to north London, and that due to the current financial situation affecting clubs across world football, the Italian giants may be forced into selling their young midfielder to help bring some respite.

The report further claims that Jose Mourinho’s side have been “pressing for months” to get a deal over the line, but that they are likely to intense competition from the likes of Manchester United and Juventus.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Still only 20-years-old, it’s quite staggering the kind of experience and praise Zaniolo has received in his fledgling career thus far. He already has five senior caps for Italy, scoring twice, whilst he has already become the new heartbeat of Roma.

Prior to his cruciate ligament rupture, he had played 24 times across all competitions this season, scoring six goals and providing a further two assists, with his ability to play anywhere behind the striker giving his side an added string to their bow.

Roma legend Francesco Totti waxed lyrical about his fellow Italian, saying: “He has explosive strength and technique, and everything it takes to become a truly great player.”

This is someone who was called up to the Italy side by Roberto Mancini without actually having played a game in Serie A, with Italian football expert Mina Rzouki further hailing his ability. She said: “Zaniolo is a trequartista, he is someone who plays in the hole in attacking midfield. He is turning out to be an exceptional talent. He is somebody who is precise and quick in his passing. His decision-making is exceptional, he understands how to keep hold of the ball and is physical and big enough which means it is difficult to dispossess him.”

Of course, at the moment it’s Dele Alli who occupies that all-important number ten role at Spurs, but Zaniolo’s age and talent may even see him overtake the England international in becoming Mourinho’s jewel in the crown in north London.

Tottenham fans did not want Jose Mourinho as their new boss

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on Wednesday morning that Jose Mourinho has been appointed as the club’s new manager.

Spurs announced on Tuesday evening that Pochettino had been relieved of his duties at the club after overseeing a poor start to the campaign.

Indeed, the capital side are down in 14th spot in the Premier League table having only won three of their 12 league fixtures this season.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said on Tuesday night that Mourinho – out of work since being sacked by Manchester United last December – was the favourite to arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the near future.

But it would be fair to say that a number of Spurs fans did not want the 56-year-old on hearing that news.

Mourinho was clearly not on the list of managers that the supporters wanted judging by their comments on social media, but they are going to have to get used to it.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is setting his team up to suffer more injury woes

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

We’re pretty much a third of the way through the Championship season, and Leeds United are going well at the moment.

Indeed, the Whites currently sit third in the table, and they’re within touching distance of the automatic promotion spots.

However, it seems as if Leeds United haven’t addressed one of their key issues from the previous campaign, and that may be down to Marcelo Bielsa’s unwillingness to change one thing.

Watch Leeds United Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

Last season

Of course, we’re talking about injuries.

Leeds were massively hampered by fitness issues to key men in the latter part of the 2018/19 campaign, so much so that they had to lineup with four youth players on the bench for their playoff semi-final against Derby County alongside another man who played just two games all season as well as an unfit Pontus Jansson.

It wasn’t just in the post-season that Leeds were affected by these problems either as their full injury list from August to February shows just how common these issues were for a number of key players.

This may partly have been down to the intense training sessions put on by Marcelo Bielsa throughout the campaign, as Jansson’s description of ‘murderball’ sounds like a recipe for disaster as well as a recipe for injuries.

Making the same mistakes

You can understand Bielsa putting his players through their paces during his first season at the club as he needed them to get to grips with his system and the physical demands of playing under him.

But to continue with such intense schedules 15 months on from his appointment is borderline idiotic, especially when the squad is largely the same group of players that were in the team last year.

Mateusz Klich said recently: “It’s 11 v 11 with no stopping. Constantly running, sprinting & with the coaches on the pitch screaming all the time. Basically you can’t stop running.”

For a team that regularly picks up injuries, this seems incredibly foolish from Bielsa to be running his players into the ground.

There’s seemingly no need to be continuing with this incredibly tough way of operating at this stage, and with Leeds’ injury list once again building up you have to wonder if Bielsa will be changing his ways in the near future.

If not, it could come back to haunt the Whites.

Aston Villa’s Matt Targett has totally transformed the team on the left flank

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Aston Villa face a trip to Manchester this weekend as the Premier League’s reigning champions play host at the Etihad Stadium.

You’d imagine this is their toughest test since opening the season at the Champions League finalists Tottenham, but having picked up back-to-back victories for the first time this campaign, they’ll have every bit of confidence in snatching a result.

After all, Wolves did manage to before the international break.

After smashing five past Norwich City, Dean Smith’s side saw off Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to late heroics from Matt Targett.

The summer arrival was found with a deft ball from captain Jack Grealish in the 94th minute before he managed to slot home from an acute angle.

On the Chalkboard

Targett has been an influential player on the left-flank since making his long-awaited debut against Burnley.

In his three Premier League appearances, the 24-year-old has improved game-by-game in terms of rating, and even that hasn’t dipped below 7.01, per WhoScored.

Basically, Villa are unbeaten when Targett is in the starting line up.

His presence offers the west Midlanders an attacking threat, much more so than Neil Taylor, and this shift in attitude has contributed hugely to their upturn in form.

Aston Villa’s summer signings’ performances so far this season are rated in the video below…

Targett is averaging 2.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game compared to the Welshman’s 0.1 and 0 respectively – that’s quite the contrast.

Even defensively, the former Southampton is offering more with 2.3 interceptions and three clearances per match, via WhoScored.

When taking a look at the previous matches of the pair, the contrasting playing styles between both of them is even more apparent, below are the heatmaps from the Brighton and Arsenal games – the latter being the last game in which Taylor started.

The 30-year-old’s focal point is well behind the halfway line (right image), whereas Targett has a heavily intensive area in the opposition’s half (left image).

This is far more than Taylor does, and he was playing against ten men in that match for the best part of an hour.

Yes, really. That’s how defensive-minded he is.

This is only emphasised when looking at their average playing position, which can be seen below for the same fixtures, via WhoScored.

Targett’s average position is bang on the halfway line (left image), with the Welshman’s being much further back.

With the £9m-rated man being able to bomb forward, it has allowed Grealish a chance to thrive in the final third as he can cut inside knowing the 24-year-old is going to be there out wide.

Their partnership should continue to flourish, and that will give Villa the best chance of success in attack – in the last two matches alone they’ve netted seven goals.

Whereas in their previous seven matches before that, Smith’s side only scored eight.

Newcastle United fans praise Miguel Almiron for role in West Ham win

Lots of Newcastle United fans have been praising Miguel Almiron for his performance against West Ham on Saturday, as Steve Bruce’s men recorded a 3-2 win.

Supporters have been praising Almiron for his role in the victory, after the 25-year-old displayed an “absolutely phenomenal” work rate to track back and attack in east London.

The 25-year-old recorded 47 touches against the Hammers, as he attacked and defended up and down the right-hand channel, while drifting across the edge of the Irons’ area to offer support to his Toon teammates.

Almiron again failed to open his account for goals or assists, though, as he could not convert any of his three on-target efforts and did not register a key pass, per WhoScored data.

He did find a teammate with each of his 24 passes, though, with ten coming in the final third – no other Newcastle player completed all of their attempted passes.

Only Federico Fernandez and Isaac Hayden were successful with more of their tackles than Almiron of Bruce’s men, with the Paraguay international taking possession on two occasions, along with recording one clearance and two interceptions.

Almiron’s total of four shots at the London Stadium was the most he has attempted in a Premier League game so far this term, while also penning a joint-season low one unsuccessful touch.
